Governor Brown Announces Appointment of Claudia Cappio as Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency

SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. today announced the appointment of Claudia Cappio as Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency. Ms. Cappio comes to the Agency with a background in land use planning, project development and administration, including affordable housing.
Over the past 30 years she has served as Development Director, City Planner and Major Projects and Building Manager for several local governments in the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area. Her experience includes work on a number of major projects such as the Chiron Biotechnology Center Campus project and the Pixar Animation Studios Campus project in Emeryville. She also played a major role in the efforts to develop a state park along the East Bay shoreline, including the area known as the Albany Waterfront.
Ms. Cappio served as Development Director for the City of Oakland under, then, Mayor Jerry Brown and worked closely with the mayor on the 10K Downtown Housing Initiative. She was responsible for Planning, Building, Major Projects divisions as well as the Oakland Base Reuse Authority.
Steven Spears will be staying on as the Agency's Chief Deputy Director. Mr. Spears has over 20 years of experience in public and housing finance and government fiscal management. He most recently served as CalHFA's Director and has been with the Agency since 2006, serving as Chief Deputy Director from January 2006 to December 2008.
