There will be no fee or charge for this assistance; it is our goal to help you find available alternative solutions to keep you in your home and avoid foreclosure. Some of these alternatives may include reviewing your package for a payment plan, special forbearance, a temporary reduction in your interest rate or a longer term on your loan.

Hardship Assistance Information

There are many options available to you, if you are experiencing a financial hardship. This section provides useful information if you are having difficulty making payments, or anticipate have difficulty making payments on your CalHFA-serviced loan(s).

If you are a servicemember or a dependent of a servicemember, you may be entitled to protections under SCRA regarding the interest rate and risk of foreclosure and counseling is available for covered servicemembers at agencies such as Military OneSource (www.militaryonesource.mil) and Armed Forces Legal Assistance (www.legalassistance.law.af.mil).

For additional financial assistance you should contact a HUD-approved mortgage counselor at 800.569.4287 or TDD 800.877.8339 who will provide information to help you in managing your mortgage payments and personal finances in the future. There is no charge to you for this counseling service.

Free Legal Services Are Available to Help You

Free legal services are available to homeowners who aren't able to afford them. These services are intended to help homeowners seeking legal advice on matters relating to preserving sustainable homeownership.

A list of participating organizations can be found on the CA Mortgage Relief website. Services are provided by programs certified as Qualified Legal Services Projects (QLSPs) and Qualified Support Centers (QSCs) throughout California. The areas of legal services provided include:
